OSCEOLA COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION PRESSURED TO HALT INQUIRY INTO LOCAL IMPACTS OF POTASH PROJECT
The Osceola County Planning Commission has been the only governmental body, at any level, that has attempted to understand the changes that this project is likely to bring to the area, economically, socially, and environmentally. It is, after all, their job to foresee and plan for whatever is coming to the county. Unfortunately, because the county is not zoned, the Commission possesses no real power. Michigan Potash & Salt Company has taken full advantage of this fact and, instead of assisting the Commission, has for over four years been steadfastly unwilling to even answer questions before the group. Instead, the Commission came under such intense and prolonged pressure that its inquiry has been shut down entirely.
It should raise some bright red flags when a local planning commission is prevented from looking into the largest development, by far, in county history!!!
