4/6/22: Michigan Potash & Salt Co. has applied to the Michigan DNR to lease potash mining rights beneath multiple properties in northern Mecosta County and a single property in Osceola County. To our knowledge, no exploratory drilling was ever done near those areas in Mecosta County, so the size and nature of potash deposits, if any exist, are a complete unknown. This latest move by Michigan Potash is causing a good deal of head-scratching. What could the company possibly gain by holding mineral rights beneath 14 widely scattered properties lying beyond the range of their chosen Osceola County refinery site?
